HMS Gotland Gtd - Wikiwand
The main feature of Kockum´s Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System is the use of Stirling engines burning pure oxygen and diesel fuel in a pressurized combustion chamber. The Stirling power module V4-275R, integrated with a liquid oxygen system, is currently built for submarines for the Royal Swedish Navy and for the offshore company Comex in France. Since mid 1985 the Stirling engine system for the Swedish Navy has been successfully tested in a full-scale submarine test section. A contract has been signed having Kockums as the main contractor. The French programme means a 500 ton manned diver lock-out submarine, the SAGA I, which is under final construction at Comex in Marseille. The energy system for the SAGA submarine consists of two V4–275R Stirling engines of maximum 100 kW power each. In SAAB A26 and SAAB-Damen Warlus-concept, the evolution of Kocknums Stirling engine from v4 275r Mark 3 to Mark 5 is expected, but there is little information on this evolution.

00-talet Index of Stirling engine manufactures (post 1940) GREAT BRITAIN. Anonymous in Comments on November 5, 2018 has kindly provided details discussing the Kockum's Mark 5 Stirling engine that will likely be incorporated into the SAAB A26 and maybe into the SAAB-Damen Walrus replacement: The SAAB A26 and SAAB-Damen Walrus concept, will likely have an evolution of the current (in Gotland class) Kockums Mark 3 Stirling engine v4-275R Mark 3 [4]. Kockums V4-275R Mk Ill-motor. Denna välbeprövade motor är den tredje generationen i V4275R serien.

Kockums also delivered Stirling engines to Japan. Ten Japanese submarines were equipped with Stirling engines. The first submarine in the class, Sōryū, was launched on 5 December 2007 and delivered to the navy in March 2009. The eleventh of the class is the first one that is equipped with lithium-ion batteries without a Stirling engine. The engines, type V4-275R, were made by Kockums company, and were supposed to deliver 75 kW shaft power. So far as I understand the matter, the continuously available power was less than 75 kW, perhaps closer to 60 kW.

The Swedish Södermanland class of diesel-electric submarines consists of HSwMS Södermanland and HSwMS Östergötland. These two submarines were originally launched as Västergötland-class submarines in 1987 and 1990, and have been relaunched as a new class after extensive modernization in 2003 and 2004 by Kockums AB. Submarines are unique tools for securing national interests. In a world where any movement or asset is exposed, being able to act undetected has never been more crucial.
